Introducing: MindMeister Offline

We’re sure you’d agree that web-based applications are great - you can access your data online from wherever you are, instantly share documents with others, and even work on them simultaneously. But what happens when you have no internet connection, maybe on a plane or in a Fijian beach hut?
Well that’s where MindMeister Offline comes in - you just take all your mind maps offline using the handy slider at the bottom of the maps list, and hey presto! you can work on your mind maps anytime, from anywhere. Next time you get connected just slide the slider back and all your changes (and new maps) will be synched back to your online account automatically!
MindMeister Offline uses Google Gears offline technology, which is still in beta stage, so please bear with us should you experience any glitches with the offline mode. Drop us an email if you encounter any issues and we’ll do our best to iron them out!
The offline mode is available to all users for a 30 day trial period (even if you’re already subscribed and your initial trial period has expired), after that only Premium users will be able to use it.

why can’t we download and use an offline version without registering?

Good question - I suppose it would be possible. The offline version is still a web app though, and is really meant for usage in conjunction with the the MindMeister site. You don’t get any of the benefits of a web app by using it only offline. We’ll give it a thought though, thanks!

Since I got the email about Minmeister offline, I tried it for a couple of days. I don’t think this is stable, yet. After saving my map on offline mode, I closed it. Then I tried to open it again and it said there was an error during opening. So I tried to go online mode and during the sync process, the webbrowser(firefox) just stopped working. After shutting down the firefox, I turned it again and found the map I just worked on disappeared.
My coworker had a similar problem with synchronizing maps between offline and online.
Please find bugs and get them fixed as soon as possible.

Paul, very sorry for your problems - we are experiencing some server issues at the moment and hope to have them resolved soon. Also, Google Gears is still in beta (as it says on the install page) but I think your problems are more related to the server trouble…

Yup, upon synching back up after a Gears session at least (which I am way stoked about) I’m having problems deleting nodes, etc. Also, page history function is way weak - why would I just want to revert back to some undifferentiated point in the history - I ought to be able to view differences and go to any point in history without losing succeeding versions. (I’m using Mindmeister to work with some wiki people and they pointed out that page history is not cool)

Marshall - deleting nodes should work fine - what exactly are the problems you’re having? Re page history, you’re right, this could be improved a lot, and it’s on our list to do this asap. It’s a tricky one though…
