MindMeister for iPhone finally in the App Store!
20Aug
It is done – the new MindMeister application for iPhone and iPod touch has finally arrived in the App Store! Those who’ve followed its progress know that it has been a rather slow birth, but nonetheless we’ve made it there in the end.
The new MindMeister iPhone application allows you to take your online mind maps with you wherever you go. Just sign in to your MindMeister account when you first start the app, browse and download your mind maps for local editing and let the application take care of synchronising them with the cloud.
MindMeister for iPhone + iPod touch is officially available in the App Store now for only $6.99 / €5.49. It works with any MindMeister account – even the free Basic one – and pretty much all iPhone / iPod touch versions (minimum OS 2.2.1).
Upgrading from MindMaker?
You might remember that the MindMeister iPhone app was developed from MindMaker, which we acquired from Ultravague a while ago (that’s also why the publisher in the App Store is not MindMeister but Ultravague). So if you’ve already been using MindMaker this upgrade is completely free for you!
When you start the new app the first time your existing mind maps will automatically be converted to the new format. Then, once you sign up for a MindMeister account (the Basic one will do – but feel free to go Premium straight away), all your local maps will be synched to the MindMeister server. This means online access and backup, import and export in many formats, easy sharing and collaboration, and much much more.

This app sounds great.
But why are you charging Premium members? Been a long time (paying) fan of MindMeister, and have been waiting for this. A little disappointed that I have to pay for the app too.

The App is great! But is has a MAJOR flaw, you can’t minimize branches witch makes it almost impossible to work with bigger Maps (Most of my nodes will overlap).
I bought it anyway so that you have an incentive to work on the app
.
Best regards,
Florian

No, in fact you won’t see your annotations to nodes at all. The application hasn’t the whole power of the online Application yet.

Hi everybody, thanks for the comment, glad you (mostly) like the first version of the app. We’re aware that some important features are still missing and working on them right now. First of all ability to collapse nodes and editing for icons, colors and styles.
Versions for Palm Pre / Android aren’t scheduled at the moment, we want to get the iPhone version right before we start any other mobile projects.
We hope the charge isn’t too high even for Premium members, we just wanted to give also Basic users some mobile mapping ability without having two editions. But we’re thinking of a way on how to pay you back for your continuing support, stay tuned!

Wonderful app with great features and even greater potential. It may have taken a while, but the solid foundations are there now to support amazing things in the future! This app is already blowing away the competition.
Thanks for the update Michael; It’s great to hear what you’re currently working on as it’s exactly what we need next
Thanks to the team.

I was looking at whether to get back into MindMeister and perhaps use the iPhone app to edit them on the move. But the App Store is telling me that the app isn’t available in the UK. Is there a reason for that?

Looks like this is no longer available on the AppStore. Why has this been withdrawn?
I bought the app and this morning saw there was an update so tried to download it then got the “This item is no longer available” message. Now I find if I search for it on the appstore it’s been removed completely.
Can we have an update please?! I’m waiting on an update to the app because it doesn’t work at all on my iPhone (always crashes when opening a mindmap – yes I’ve restarted. Also tested on 3.1 and it’s still broken there).
Jamie.

We had to temporarily pull the latest update from the App Store because of a nasty bug that somehow made it through our QA. We’ve already submitted a fixed version and are now waiting for Apple to release it. Any ideas on how to expedite this process are very welcome!
